As we embarked on our 10th anniversary, we thought we needed to reformulate our strategy for the years ahead: sustainability. We know it's a “buzz” word, but we really had the urge to hop on this ride. Today, energy accounts for up to 60% of global greenhouse emissions; and it's no secret Guatemala is years behind in even having thoughts about evolving into utilizing more friendly energy sources. We wanted to start with a tangible idea, committing to improving the quality of the way we operate and at the same time become more efficient in the long-term. But how could we even achieve this? Well, we thought about solar powered coffee. Partnered directly with INCOFIN, we’ve invested in state-of-the-art solar panels that will be powering our HQ operations; hence our upcoming campaign: “Cleaner, cooler coffee”. This is our very first initiative to become a greener company, and we know there is still a long way to go, but we’re clear of the path we need to take.
THE FIRST PROJECT
USING RENEWABLE ENERGY
We built a photovoltaic solar system that will generate a total of 8.2 MWh/year, the equivalent of saving up to 3,000 trees over the course of the next 5 years.
- Installed Power: 125 kWp.
- Specific production: 1,502 kWh/kW/year.
- CO2 reduction in 30 years: 2,088 tons
- 240 Solar Panels of 545 Wp.
- 2 Huawei 60 kW AC inverters.
- 1 PV Board.
-1 Board with 200A bar.
-3 transformers of 75 kVA = 225 KVA.
-Technology: Huawei Technologies CO., LTD
